-YEAH, YOU CAN FREAK OUT!!!-
by Ana Carolina Pedral
Is anyone else in the pandemic period -that's probably the name of the chapter in the next history books - that can use all the resources that technology gave us without ANY problem? I think the answer is no.
Besides the fact that we're working triple, sleeping less than usual, with all these problems, we have to deal with technology in all forms. Now we need to reinvent ourselves all the time, always be creative, and forced to enter in the technology world. But the fact is, we were prepared to deal with kids crying, teenagers' behavior, but NOT with this situation that we are living.
If we are at one side of the screen, trying to do the best with what we have and can, on the other side of the computer are the students, who are tired of being at home and study online. And, a problem that I notice the most is the bad connection, that is one thing you CAN'T prepare nor prevent, and it's impossible to have a plan B. Unfornutelly, not all homes have a good connection, some don't even have a wifi connection. And what we should do when the connection ends in the middle of a class?
-cry- * that's a GREAT option (confess that I used this resource).
With all the problems that come together with the online teaching, we had to change and learn all over again how to teach. We changed the whiteboard, to zoom, the face to face became camera to camera. And with all that, we reinvented ourselves to learn how to use the tools that technology have, and sometimes become teacher/Youtuber/editor and all the jobs that came along with online class.
Connection problem is only one of the others problems we, teachers, are having, but we have to try to deal with it until the day the camera to camera scenario will get back to face to face - with mascara -.
So, teach in the middle of a pandemic is difficult, but not impossible. And yeah, you can freak out every time you want, we're all in this - freaking out - together.
